Mesomorph Diet to Gain Muscle and Lose Fat

The mesomorph body type is naturally an athletic build. Broad shoulders, narrow waist.

Mesomorphs build muscle relatively easily compared to the other body types such as endomorphic body type and ectomorphic body type. Although they can develop excess fat, they have an easier time of getting rid of excess fat than endomorph somatotypes.

I’m of the view there are specific diets for the different body types (or somatotypes).

However, the diet variables for whether you want to build muscle or burn fat remain the same with the exception of the number of calories.

You see, the only variable that changes according to body type is the macronutrient mix.

The macronutrient mix is a fancy way of saying “protein percentage, carb percentage and fat percentage.

The following is the recommend macronutrient mix, which is the foundation for a mesomorph diet.

  • Protein: 35%
  • Carbs: 40%
  • Fats: 25%

However, that’s not the full story.

If you want to build muscle:

You must have a caloric surplus over the course of a week. Not too much … but a slight surplus.

If a mesomorph wants to burn fat:

Consume the same macronutrient mix above … but consume fewer calories than one burns over the course of a week.

Other important variable:

  • Number of calories to consume

Mesmomorphs generally will eat more calories than an endomorph but fewer than ectomorph.

There isn’t a magic number of calories. This will depend on your goal (build muscle or burn fat or both) as well as your starting weight. Of course the biggest determining factor of how many calories to consume is how many calories you burn. You need to figure this out … which is a bit of a trial and error process.

  • How many calories you need to consume each day according to your goal (gain muscle or fat loss);
  • You want full diet plan including meal plan to follow (that includes serving sizes, types of food, etc.);
  • How much water to consume for your body type;
